Home energy storage systems
With home solar storage systems, you increase the level of self-sufficiency of domestic photovoltaic systems
For owners of photovoltaic systems and home owners interested in domestic PV systems, their own consumption and self-sufficiency are becoming increasingly important. Reliable energy storage and systems are essential for this, as they make it possible to store the power they have generated for use at a later date. In total, home owners with PV systems can increase the proportion available for their own consumption from 30% (without a storage system) to up to 80% by installing a storage system.
The storage system market is growing rapidly
Battery storage systems have been experiencing a real boom for years. The price of battery storage systems has fallen significantly in recent years and now represents an interesting investment for many customers. More than every second PV system (56%) was installed with an electricity storage system in 2021 (source: Gebäude Energieberater, 08.04.2021, geb-info.de). More and more users of solar power are becoming aware of the relevance of energy storage systems. The technology is now established, safe and has arrived on the market. In 2023, the installed capacity of home storage systems in Germany doubled again compared to the previous year to 6 GW. The expansion of photovoltaics, rising electricity prices and self-consumption, especially in combination with e-mobility, are driving these developments. Up to 2 million home storage systems are expected to be installed in Germany by the end of 2024. This would mean that around 15% of all single-family homes would be equipped with energy storage systems (source: BVES industry analysis 2024, 14.03.2024).
Finally, the growing demand for clean energy is also increasing the need for battery storage. As solar power is considered to be one of the cleanest energy sources, the demand for corresponding storage solutions to store self-generated energy and then use it at a later date is also increasing.
This market growth is expected to continue in the future so that people can increasingly use their own electricity from the roof. The possibility of using dynamic electricity tariffs will also play a decisive role here. Even if they do not have to be offered by energy suppliers until 01.04.2024, there are already several providers on the market. This also brings additional economic benefits: Cheap electricity can be temporarily stored in home storage systems and used at times when tariffs are unfavorable.

Reference system: HUAWEI LUNA2000
A 9kWp photovoltaic system was installed on this new home in order to "not waste any sunshine". With a 10kW inverter and the battery storage solution LUNA 2000 from HUAWEI with 5kWh, the family intends to reduce its carbon emissions as much as possible. The modular concept of this battery storage solution makes it possible to flexibly extend it with additional battery modules, if necessary. This means that storage capacities of up to 90kWh can be realised even with three inverters. The app makes it possible to display all of the PV system's important data to the end customers quickly and in a way they can easily follow.
