Photovoltaic diesel hybrid solutions in industrial applications
Sustainable production and lower electricity bills with BayWa r.e.
Many small and medium sized enterprises in Africa, Asia and South America still do not have a stable power supply from the national grid and have to meet their power demand with diesel generators. However, this type of power generation is not only expensive, but also bad for the environment.
The solution: by installing an integrated photovoltaic diesel hybrid system, solar energy can be used directly as a power source for industrial production – without the need for a connection to the national grid. The diesel generator is started automatically by a suitable controller – but only when the power demand is greater than the solar energy yield – and reliably generates the electricity required. Not only does this save money, it also reduces CO2 emissions.
BayWa r.e. supports and actively participates in the expansion of power generation, independent from the national grid, using solar energy – and not just as a wholesaler. Through our global partner network, we can create a specially tailored design for your project, supply you with the right components and assist you throughout the implementation phase.
Reference project: PV diesel hybrid solution for a tea factory in Rwanda
Sorwathe Ltd. is one of the leading producers of tea in Rwanda and is committed to sustainable production. To achieve this goal, the company chose a photovoltaic diesel hybrid solution, becoming a pioneer of innovative and clean energy generation in Rwanda.
The photovoltaic diesel hybrid system was designed and implemented together with partner, OneShore Energy. For optimum efficiency, BayWa r.e. supplied high quality German solar modules and inverters, for maximum yields and reliable operation.
Once the hybrid system was installed, Sorwathe saw a sustainable and lasting reduction in its energy costs. The tea factory's move to decentralised energy generation also brought considerable relief to Rwanda's national grid.
